Meet Jodie And The Theatre Box Team
The Theatre Box performing arts classes were created by me, Jodie Moss – Founder and Creative Director.
10 years ago I set up a little drama club for children on a Friday night. The children would be jumping and desperate to peep in as I would turn up every week with my box of props and theatre masks. One day, a child excitedly asked “Miss Jodie, Miss Jodie! What’s in the theatre box today?!”. That’s how we got our name! The class was soon full and I realised I had created something which was not just tuition. The children were growing in confidence, getting a sense of pride and belonging, and were making great friends.
I went on to have 3 of my own beautiful and brilliant children, all of whom have an autism diagnosis. This presented me with some extra challenges in life and I took a little time out.
Like many people, I was reflecting in lockdown and realised some important things. I want my children to see what can be achieved when you never give up. I have a passion within me for writing children’s plays and scripts and I love to create engaging and interactive classes.
So, in 2020 I started to run some outdoor performing arts sessions in South Bristol. From there The Theatre Box grew and within a year there were over 100 children signed up to the classes.
My professional background
I am a teacher and performer. I have an extensive background in the arts as a professional performer, teacher and director of children’s theatre. I studied drama and theatre in Bristol and have performed in almost every local theatre.
I have a great deal of performing experience. Some of my most memorable roles include touring as ‘Duffy’ the singer tribute act around the UK and performing as Nancy in the musical Oliver at The Playhouse. Singing has always been a big passion and I still perform professionally from time to time. In recent years, I have enjoyed performing in Cabarets, theatre productions and professional choirs.
Over the years ,I have been known quite widely across stage schools as ‘Miss Jodie’. In particular at The Bristol School of Performing Arts where I worked as a teacher for 16 years. I am honoured to have assisted the Director John Redgrave with his large productions and enjoyed being cast in the leading roles at The Weston Playhouse alongside teaching and directing the children at the school. I gained a great deal of teaching experience in schools, stage schools and theatre companies.
My main skills & qualifications include...
- teaching drama, singing and dance along with taking children through LAMDA examinations with a 100 % pass rate
- training others in the arts industry to become performing arts teachers themselves
- BTEC in Performing Arts
- Foundation Degree in Drama
- Post Graduate Diploma in Musical Theatre
- Diploma in Singing with The London College of Music
- I am also a Level 3 qualified Playworker
It is my passion for working with children and my love for Theatre that has led me to setting up my own performing arts company in South Bristol – The Theatre Box.
Meet the Team
Founder and Creative Director
Drama teacher/Assistant director
Miss Malika is our wonderful Native French and English speaking drama teacher. She has a background in theatre and arts both in France and England. She has worked in television and theatre and she studied drama in France where she worked as an entertainer. At the age of 20 Malika came to England and studied here in Bristol gaining a HNC in performing arts and a level 3 Diploma in theatrical and media make-up.
Alongside her teaching, Malika has had a fabulous career running her own casino business. Malika has worked as an actor and supporting artists in short films playing the part of Kitty in Mr Smith. Her favourite role in theatre was Mr Brap in Silver. Malika is also a qualified aromatherapist and has her own aromatherapy business here in Bristol. Malika loves to see the talents of children grow and says “there is no better feeling that seeing confidence develop in a child”.
Miss Malika loves a good festival and a boogie and she brings a wonderful energy to The Theatre Box every week. She never fails to make us giggle!
Lianne is a drama teacher for one of our Saturday afternoon Hengrove classes. Lianne is a very talented pantomime actress and she absolutely loves a good sing! Lianne’s favourite performances include playing the feisty cat hero in Puss in Boots and singing at the Cheddar beer festival.
Lianne is a qualified children’s playworker and has been with The Theatre Box right from the beginning of our journey some 10 years ago where she worked with Jodie to create a children’s community drama group. She is a fabulous energetic character and a super fun drama teacher who also has 2 little drama queens of her own.
Being a busy mummy means Lianne doesn’t have much time to commit to performing these days, but she absolutely LOVES being a part of The Theatre Box and passing on her experience and knowledge to the children.
Performing Arts teacher & choreographer
Miss Emma has a great deal of experience in performing arts having studied it and taught it here in Bristol. In the past, Emma has run performing arts clubs for children including the BPAC group in Knowle, where she taught and directed the shows taking over from her mum.
Miss Emma’s first love is dance and she is a fabulous choreographer with experience in directing and choreographing children’s shows. Miss Emma’s daughter attends our classes and it took us a while to discover that not only was she a parent who wanted to get involved and help, she also had a performing arts background! We jumped at the chance to have Miss Emma join us and she is a wonderful teacher.
Miss Emma currently runs the Show Clubs with Miss Jodie on Saturdays and from time to time will teach and direct the drama groups. Miss Emma has a lovely, fun nature and her passion for the arts shines through. Miss Emma loves to share her passion for the arts with our students.
Teaching assistant & Early years specialist
Miss Kara is our amazing teaching assistant and she is a highly qualified early years specialist. She has no background in the arts, but we are slowly introducing her! She made it very clear from the start that she does not know how to sing and dance, but nevertheless she still gets involved every week! Miss Kara is a natural when it comes to working with children and it’s no surprise given her background. She has a BA (hons) in Childhood and Youth Studies and PGCE and early years status along with an MA in early years education. Kara is a forest school leader and has a great love for the outdoors, she loves animals and has tons of pets – along with 5 children of her own! Kara is a great support to the children and her kind, warm nature is instantly felt by everyone in the class.
Kara has years of experience of working with children of all ages including working with SEN children. Kara had spent a year supporting Jodie’s autistic children at school and this is where they first met. Kara assists Jodie with the Friday baby classes and supports the children in the drama classes. We are delighted to have her join us at The Theatre Box.
Performing Arts assistant
Sam’s first Job is with us at The Theatre Box, and she absolutely loves it!
Sam has always loved being on the stage and her favourite performance was with Abba Mania at the Bristol Hippodrome where she was a part of their theatre group. Sam has always been involved with groups and stage schools including Razzamataz and Bristol Old Vic. Sam once performed in Aladdin with the Bristol Scouts Gang Show and said “it was incredible experience”. She is currently rehearsing for their next show to be staged in 2022. Sam has a Trinity College London Bronze Award with Creative Youth Network.
Sam has a love and passion for singing, dancing and drama and is also one of our senior drama class students. Sam says “It makes me so happy to be able to share my experiences with the younger children at The Theatre Box. I love to inspire others and I hope they can feel that same excitement that I get when I’m performing.”
Lyn is our lovely volunteer at our Saturday sessions. Lyn gives up her time weekly to support our classes. Jodie has taught Lyn’s daughter for the last 8 years. When Lyn heard that Jodie was going to run sessions on her doorstep, she was delighted that her daughter could start up classes again.
Lyn has a level 2 teaching assistant qualification and has supported students at the Oasis Academy. She is an experienced chaperone having worked at stage schools and dance schools in Bristol and has completed her safeguarding and food hygiene courses. Lyn’s SEN experience makes her an incredible support to those students that may need a little bit of extra help. We are so happy that Lyn offered her help and wanted to join our team!

Michelle has lots of experience working on period dramas and she is also a registered children’s chaperone. She currently chaperones children on set with the Bristol children’s casting agency Briz Kids (check out their website for TV casting opportunities).
